Heartland exports score another month of growth

June 21, 2017 – According to Ernie Goss’ Heartland International Business Index, the May regional new export orders index remained strong despite slipping to a still positive 54.0 from 60.5 in April. Any reading above 50.0 indicates growth.

The import index dropped to 52.4 from April’s 60.7. “An expanding regional economy supported buying from abroad for the month. Recent declines in the value of the U.S. dollar and expanding global economic conditions have supported a new export orders index above growth neutral for the month,” said Prof.Goss.

Fred Baehner, IBNewsmag publisher, pointed out, “This was the 6th straight month of export growth here in the Heartland indicating continued strength in manufacturing in our region.”

The Heartland International Business Index is exclusive to IBNewsmag , and a leading economic indicator based on survey results from supply managers in the 9-state region including Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, North and South Dakota.
