US traders using NVOCCs for China freight must ensure re-registration

October 28, 2019 – According to a report from Supply Chain today, US Non-Vessel Owning Common Carriers (NVOCCs) need to re-register with the China Ministry of Transport (MOT) under China’s new registration system to ensure freight transport with China.

It had been previously reported that MOT had dropped formal registration approval procedures and insurance (China bond) requirements for all NVOCCs. While US companies may not have to continue renewing the China bond through this development, they should check with their NVOCC to be sure they have re-registered and fully complied as now required.

For companies not using a NVOCC, it is suggested they check with their freight forwarder for the latest updates.
