Union Pacific Halting Shipments for One Week

July 15, 2021 – According to an announcement today from UP, the railroad is halting all shipments from West Coast ports to its Global IV terminal in Chicago for up to a week beginning Sunday night.

This means that as many as 40,000 twenty foot containers will be stuck at West Coast ports mainly due to inbound congestions at Chicago, Memphis and other destinations.

The greatest issue appears to be a shortage of pool chassis at Chicago’s Global IV, and UP’s halt may created additional huge back-ups at West Coast ports.
